Tell us a little bit about your business ?
We are a movie theatre that specializes in foreign and independent films.
What makes Cinema Arts Theatres unique in Fairfax City?
Best movie theatre in the land!! Independent, not a chain.
How many years has Cinema Arts Theatres been in Fairfax City and what encouraged you to take the leap to get started?
Almost 22 years. Nobody was showing our genre of movies as an “art house” – limited release, foreign, quirky ones, too.
What inspired you to open a business in Fairfax City?
Demographics are ideal for our kind of theatre – an art house.
What do you enjoy most about having a business in Fairfax City?
Great customers, great neighbors, and ease of dealing with the City agencies.
How has Cinema Arts Theatres changed since its opening?
More established in our market – “Art House”.
What do customers say they love about Cinema Arts Theatres?
They overwhelmingly love our selection of movies. Always diverse offerings. Pushing the envelope on types of movies.
What are some of your fondest memories since you’ve opened?
The year that both Fahrenheit 911 and The Passion of The Christ movies came out. A most wonderful dichotomy of customer bases came out. Doing our Kickstarter campaign to get new seats. Starting a film club. Offering Sushi when we first opened – I ate a ton of it, since we couldn’t just toss what wasn’t sold (which was not much!!).
What’s next for your business?
Hoping to get everyone to come to the movies again. And, to find and reach out to new markets, new populations. To be more of a cultural center in the community!!!
Are there any fun facts you would like residents and visitors to know?
The owner’s a hoot. We have “senior Wednesdays” where tickets are WAY reduced for our “mature” customers! And we use real butter to top off the popcorn.
When you’re not working, where in Fairfax City do you like to spend your time?
Restaurants and shopping.
