Woody’s Ice Cream opened its door in 1998 as a hobby of the original owner, Woody. The current owner, Danielle Gilbert, is the granddaughter of Woody. Woody’s has always been family-oriented and supportive of its local community, as can be seen on the shop’s walls filled with pictures of local high school jerseys and newspaper clippings along with mural paintings of historic Old Town Fairfax landmarks.

Tell us a little about Woody’s Ice Cream.
We have been in business for 23 years. My grandpa Woody started this ice cream business as a hobby. I took over for him 6 years ago, so he and my grandma could travel. We sell soft ice cream and hard ice cream. All from local creameries.
What makes Woody’s Ice Cream unique?
We are in Old Town Fairfax and have always been in Fairfax City – a family-friendly and affordable ice cream shop. A place for people to come and socialize.
How long have you been in the city and what encouraged you to take the leap to get started?
23 years. Woody started this as a hobby. We have been in Fairfax city since 1955 and started Woody’s ice cream after Woody retired from the automotive business.
What inspired you to open a business in Fairfax City?
Old town family values. We love our community and love to support our locals.
What do you enjoy most about having a business in Fairfax City?
I love the fact that we are a small town community and everyone knows each other.
How has Woody’s Ice Cream changed since its opening?
We have added lots of different toppings and also added hard ice cream. When we opened we were soft ice cream only.

Everyone loves that we are a family-owned business.
What are some of your fondest memories or biggest successes since you’ve opened?
Since being in business I have watched little ones grow up and come to Woody’s to work now. Its pretty neat to hear their stories of when they would come to Woody’s has little kids.
When you’re not working, where in Fairfax City do you like to spend your time?
I try to spend my free time with my grandparents. They live above the ice cream shop. We spend time on the roof top looking over the park and the city.
